history
RLike much of the Sierra foothill region, Rocklin’s early growth was closely tied to the California Gold Rush. When the transcontinental railroad reached the area in 1864, Rocklin quickly became an important rail stop and supply center. The city was officially incorporated in 1893.
By the early 1900s, gold mining had slowed, but the granite industry flourished. Rocklin became one of the most important granite-quarrying centers in California, attracting immigrants from Ireland, Spain, and Finland. Granite quarried in Rocklin was used in many prominent buildings, including portions of the California State Capitol in Sacramento and structures throughout San Francisco.
Residential growth began accelerating in the 1950s and 1960s when the historic Whitney Ranch property was subdivided, creating the Sunset Whitney neighborhood. Over the following decades, Rocklin expanded rapidly with the development of communities such as Stanford Ranch, Whitney Oaks, and Whitney Ranch.

Taking History for "Granite"
As of 1910, 22 granite quarries were operating in Rocklin. These granite mines were so bountiful that in 1912, nearly 2,000 train carloads of granite were shipped out to become part of the state capitol building and other buildings in San Francisco.
